Nairobi slums are a home to thousands of people, among them thousands of girls, who have limited access to education due to school dropout that is caused by, teenage pregnancies, early marriages, poverty, cultural influences, peer pressure, insecurities among others. The school dropouts face, social stigma, fewer jobs opportunities, lower wages and under employment.
Thus, Women economic empowerment is important to give right skills and opportunities. Women who are economically empowered, contribute more to their families and society. We managed to launch our first hair dressing school in a bid to empower the young mothers in Mathare slums with wig-making and hair care.
We also trained on menstrual health and hygiene and distributed dignity packs, clothes, diapers, hair shampoo and food.
